Lester A. Lewis

In 1977, Lester A. Lewis began his legal career with the insurance defense law firm of Smalbein, Eubank, Johnson, Rosier & Bussey in Daytona Beach. Mr. Lewis practiced insurance defense law with this firm until 1984, after which he spent six years with the legendary and iconic J. Kermit Coble handling litigation for Mr. Coble’s law firm.

Mr. Lewis then practiced five years with the insurance defense firm spun off from Smalbein, Eubank, Johnson, Rosier & Bussey by Joe Eubank before starting his own firm in 1995. Mr. Lewis practiced as a sole practitioner until 2007 when he formed Lewis & Leiser, P.A. with Erica Leiser.

Mr. Lewis is an extremely experienced and very successful trial lawyer, having tried over 80 circuit court jury trials and handled over 40 appeals. Mr. Lewis has been board certified as a civil trial lawyer by the Florida Bar since 1995. He is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell, the highest legal distinction attainable by an attorney, having achieved that high honor based upon peer rating and evaluation by attorneys and judges.

Lester A. Lewis was born March 29, 1952 and Orlando and graduated Winter Park High School in 1970. He then attended the University of Florida where he was a member of the freshman scholarship honorary fraternity, Phi Eta Sigma, president of the fall pledge class at Alpha Tau Omega and a brother at Alpha Tau Omega. Mr. Lewis transferred to Florida State University in 1972 and graduated Magna Cum Laude ahead of schedule in 1974 following initiation into Phi Beta Kappa.

Lester A. Lewis then worked for a year to finance his law school education as assistant manager of McDonald’s in New Smyrna Beach before entering the University of Florida law school in March of 1975. He graduated the University of Florida law school in June of 1977 and was admitted to practice before all Florida courts in November of 1977. Mr. Lewis is a member of the bar of the Southern and Middle Districts of the United States District Court and of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals of the United States Federal Appellate Courts.

Personal

In addition to the demands of a very busy law practice, Mr. Lewis leads an active personal life. Limited leisure time is devoted to early morning workouts at the Port Orange YMCA, golf and surfing. Mr. Lewis has three children. All of the children are grown, but Mr. Lewis actively participated in sports with his children, serving as a coach when the children participated in soccer, basketball and baseball.

Lester A. Lewis is an avid golfer and present club champion at Riverbend Golf Club in Ormond Beach, as well as member/member champion for the past two years at LPGA International in Daytona Beach. Mr. Lewis served as President of the Riverbend Men’s Golf Association for three years, the only president elected (conscripted) to serve more than one term.

Since he was 13, Mr. Lewis has been an avid surfer, sitting through the “Endless Summer” for consecutive viewings in 1965 at the Old Seminole Cinema in Altamonte Springs. Mr. Lewis has enjoyed his love of the ocean and surfing ever since then, having traveled extensively throughout the world to enjoy one of nature’s greatest free rides. Mr. Lewis has surfed in Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua, California and Costa Rica. Mr. Lewis has surfed numerous times in Hawaii and spent two months on the North Shore in the winter of 1977 just before starting law school.

Mr. Lewis has lectured before insurance companies and has published a newsletter on insurance defense practice provided to insurance adjusters and other claims personnel. Mr. Lewis is a member of the Seventh Judicial Circuit Unlicensed Practice of Law Committee for the Florida Bar and has been nominated for service on the Judicial Nominating Commission of the Seventh Judicial Circuit. He is a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Daytona Beach Shores, the Port Orange YMCA and the Ponce de Leon Lighthouse Preservation Society.
